Jailed Hurriyat leader Aasiya Andrabi urges UN to resolve Kashmir dispute

SRINAGAR: The jailed Kashmiri Hurriyat leader and Chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Aasiya Andrabi, expressing serious concern over the Modi regime’s one after another anti-Kashmiris’ agendas has appealed to the UN to take all possible measures to force India to give the Kashmiris their right of self-determination.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the women leader in a massage from Indian Tihar jail said that future of millions of people in Jammu and Kashmir is associated with the Kashmir dispute and this future can only be secured by resolving the dispute as per the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Asiya Andrabi and her associates, Fehmeeda Sofi and Nahida Nasreen were arrested by Indian police in 2017 during police raids on their residences in Srinagar and are facing illegal detentions in Tihar jail, New Delhi, India.

She said that India had turned Kashmir into a military zone and war garrison where human rights violations were taking place every now and then. She said post Aug 2019, Modi regime has taken number of steps to disempower and disenfranchise Kashmriis and the authorities have intensified their atrocities in the occupied territory.

She pointed out that besides committing heinous crimes against humanity, the Modi regime has hatched numerous conspiracies to change the demography in violation of UN resolutions & international laws.

She said people of Jammu and Kashmir reject BJP-RSS policy of Hindutva and communal civilization in Muslims majority J&K because of its hegemonic, anti-Muslim & anti-Kashmiri policies.

She said that the resolution of the Kashmir dispute was imperative not only for long-lasting peace in India, Pakistan and Kashmir, but also for the entire world.

She urged the international community to take sensitivity of the Kashmir dispute into account and put pressure on India to stop rights violations in the territory and resolve the dispute in accordance with the United Nations resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people. India’s stubborn policy is the biggest obstacle to settlement of the Kashmir dispute, she added.
