PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Department has initiated efforts to make approval of map and design mandatory for new construction from the authorities before getting securing gas connections.
In this regard, a request has been sent to SNGPL, suggesting that gas connections should only be granted to those buildings that possess approved building plan from the municipal authorities.
The Director of West Zone, Peshawar Capital Metropolitan Government, has communicated with the SNGPL General Manager, stating the municipal administration has introduced an online system to regulate illegal constructions. The focus is on the height, a significant portion of the building, architectural design, and construction aspects of buildings to ensure organized development within the region.
However, some property owners and housing societies have never adhered to approved procedures. According to the plan, when residential or commercial developments apply for gas connections, the Peshawar Capital Metropolitan Government insists on the submission of an authorized plan. Gas meters can only be installed under the Local Government Act 2013 and the Model Building Bylaws 2017, which are to be strictly enforced.
It was emphasized that gas connections should only be granted to consumers with approved plans from municipal authorities. This step aims not only to regulate architectural design and construction aspects of buildings but also to potentially boost government revenue through the proper channeling of funds.
