In the wake of recent discourse regarding the ongoing social campaigns on boycotting Israeli products to support Palestine’s quest for freedom, there are challenging times for both Israel and Palestine. Presently, Palestine is experiencing severe abuse of power by Israel, leading to bloodshed, terror, and crises for innocent Palestinians. It is imperative that we stand for justice and advocate for those who are suffering anywhere in the world. Palestine is facing an onslaught, and humanity is enduring profound hardship in the region. We express our solidarity with the people of Palestine during these times. However, considering the potential economic ramifications for a country like Pakistan, it’s crucial to reconsider this approach.
It’s essential to recognize that standing against world powers requires a comprehensive strategy, incorporating diplomatic acumen, economic resilience, technological prowess, and a steadfast commitment to shared global values
It’s high time to shift away from this nonchalant mindset. If we are inclined to boycott, let’s do it intelligently, target their technology, medicines, esteemed authors, books, software, mobile phones, and even social platforms. However, the reality is, we can’t take this route because we lack a foundation of our own. Amid a severe economic crisis, skyrocketing inflation, and a surge in extremism, the proposition to ban thriving businesses is counterproductive.
Consider the multitude of branches of these international companies operating in Pakistan. Their entire workforce consists of Pakistanis, our own people. If they lose business here, the consequence is clear— they’ll close their companies, akin to other major names like Honda, Suzuki, Toyota, and so forth. We’ll be left grappling with heightened unemployment, inflation, and socio-economic tensions. Is that truly our desired outcome? The notion that one must burn their own home to save someone else’s is flawed.
We ourselves lack the capacity to aid other nations. With nearly 40 percent of our population living below the poverty line and inadequate resources to meet basic human needs, our current plan seems oblivious to the escalating misery and tensions amidst our economic crisis. Yet we are in no condition to deter international aggression towards us. Humanity is facing tough times, where cruelty and abusive power reign unchecked. While our empathy for the innocent people of Palestine is strong, our approach is misguided. We must repair our own home before attempting to fix others’. Look closely at the plight of innocent Balochis, minorities, and women. Notice the collective struggle to put food on our tables and survive these challenging times. Introducing more unemployment into our home at this juncture could lead to a collapse.
Islamabad is in dire need for international collaboration, particularly with individuals of influence (“Goras” or White people). This collaboration would bring more business, facilitating the development of skill-sets and technological know-how. The need of the hour is to truly thrive in science and technology, we must exert efforts in research and development, prioritize education and skill development, offer substantial support to tech startups and entrepreneurs, and advance infrastructure development.
Fostering collaboration with the global scientific and tech community is imperative, involving partnerships with international research institutions, active participation in collaborative projects, and the exchange of knowledge and expertise. We cannot evade the responsibilities of tomorrow. Only when we have cultivated our own economy and are not reliant on other nations can we entertain the idea of boycotting their products. Until then, let’s temper our emotions and utilize our intellect to bring prosperity and stability to our socio-economic crisis. Speaking up for others is a human obligation, and we’ll persist in doing so. The world needs to witness both sides of the picture, not just the one painted in white.
Refusing to support humanity equates to racism. Let’s hope for a unified global stance to champion the cause of innocent people and bring an end to war. When one corner of the world is bleeding, we’re all affected, and it’s our duty to advocate for the innocent. Failure to halt the war could result in its end being brought about by our collective demise.
