LHC CJ proposes litigants access to nearby courts for ‘swift justice’

  • Under new system, Mianwali and Bhakar cases will be taken up at Rawalpindi and Multan benches, respectively

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti has taken a significant step by sending a summary to the caretaker government, seeking issuance of a notification to allow litigants’ access to nearby courts instead of the LHC principal seat. This initiative aims to provide swift and hassle-free justice, particularly for litigants residing in far-flung areas who have long endured the burden of traveling to the LHC principal seat.

Under this new approach, cases originating from districts Mianwali and Bhakar will be taken up at Rawalpindi and Multan benches, respectively. Previously, litigants from these districts had to endure long journeys lasting approximately six to seven hours to file their cases at the LHC. With this initiative, the travel time to reach the relevant bench is expected to be reduced to a maximum of two hours.

The decision to establish new benches in Rawalpindi and Multan not only promises to save time but also reduce the financial burden on litigants who had to bear significant travel expenses. The administrative committee, presided over by Chief Justice Bhatti, discussed and approved this change, deeming it highly beneficial and granting its final approval.

This move reflects a direct response to the challenges faced by litigants and their demands for easier access to justice. The chief justice’s empathetic response to the litigants’ plight and the subsequent action taken is a positive step towards streamlining the legal process and alleviating the burdens faced by litigants.
