Law and order in Swat region top most priority of interim govt: KP-CM

SWAT: Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Justice (r) Syed Arshad Hussain Shah on Saturday described the maintenance of law and order situation in Swat region as the top most priority of the caretaker government, saying all possible measures would be taken to ensure peace and tranquility in the region.

“Police would be strengthened further in term of equipment, arms and ammunition and all available resources would be provided to enable the police force deal with modern day challenges in an effective manner”, Caretaker KP Chief Minister Justice (r) Syed Arshad Hussain Shah expressed the views during daylong visit to district Swat on Saturday.

The caretaker CM inspected various public service delivery outlets, including hospitals, police stations, drug addicts rehabilitation centres etc.

He took stock of the services and facilities being provided there. He issued necessary directives to the authorities concerned to further improve the service delivery system and facilitate the public to the maximum. Later on, the Chief Minister chaired a meeting of the high-ups of district administration at Commissioner Malakand office.

Advisor to Caretaker Chief Minister Dr Sarfraz Ali Shah, KP Inspector General of Police Akhtar Hayat Khan, Malakand Commissioner Saqib Raza Aslam, Regional Police Officer Muhammad Ali, Swat Deputy Commissioner Dr Qasim, Malakand Deputy Commissioner Shahid Khan and heads of all line departments attended the meeting.

On the occasion, Justice (r) Syed Arshad Hussain Shah was briefed about the overall law and order situation, administrative matters, progress on the ongoing developmental schemes and related issues. He directed the Malakand divisional administration to further improve public service delivery in the region. He also directed the police authorities for coordinated efforts to further improve the overall law and order in the region, elaborating on that crackdown should be launched on drug dealers with special focus on big-fish to eradicate the menace from the society. The KP CM further directed to improve the prosecution system to ensure punishment to people involved in the business of narcotics.

The KP CM asked the authorities concerned to expedite work on the computerization of land record and settlement in the districts where it has been initiated, and complete the process as soon as possible to facilitate the public in the region.

The chief minister was also briefed on the progress so far made on various ongoing developmental projects in Malakand Division, including Swat Motorway Phase-2, Dir Expressway, Karakar Tunnel, Koto Hydro Power Project, Lawi Hydro Project, Gorkan Matilan Hydro Power Project etc. The caretaker chief minister termed these projects as of vital importance for the overall development of the region and directed the authorities concerned to sit together and come with out-of-the-box solutions to remove the huddles impeding the fast-track execution of these projects and ensure timely completion.
