Senior US official visits India, discusses plot to murder Sikh leader

WASHINGTON: White House deputy national security adviser Jon Finer led a US delegation to New Delhi to discuss the unsuccessful plot to assassinate Sikh leader, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, on the US soil.

The White House in a statement said, “Mr. Finer acknowledged India’s establishment of a Committee of Enquiry to investigate lethal plotting in the United States and the importance of holding accountable anyone found responsible.”

Last week, the US Justice Department maintained that an Indian government official directed an unsuccessful plot to kill a Sikh leader on American soil, while it announced charges against a man accused of orchestrating the attempted murder.

Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is a dual citizen of America and Canada.

The news of the said plot came two months after Canada announced the involvement of Indian government agents in the brutal murder of another Sikh leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, in Surrey city of the British Columbia province in June.
