ISLAMABAD: A local court in Islamabad on Sunday granted the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) one-day physical remand of former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry in a graft case.
The former federal minister was presented before duty judge judicial magistrate Ghulam Mustafa at the judicial complex Rawalpindi. The judge after hearing arguments reserved its verdict and handed over Fawad on a one-day physical remand to the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE).
During the hearing on Sunday, The counsel for ACE sought a five-day physical remand and alleged that Fawad, through his frontman Fouq Sherbaz, took Rs3.5 million for providing a no-objection certificate (NOC) from a private housing scheme and the amount needs to be recovered.
The court rejected the request and sent the former PTI lawmaker one day physical remand.
The judge asked the authorities to present the accused in the relevant court after approving the plea for the physical remand. Fawad Ch would be now presented before an anti-corruption court on Monday (today).
However, Fawad’s counsel, Faisal Chaudhry, contended that the case was false and was driven by political motives arguing that the housing society owners have no complaints.
Last month, Fawad Chaudhry, who left PTI over May 9 violence, was arrested from his home in Islamabad, his wife Hiba Chaudhry said. “Fawad has been arrested and taken to an unknown place,” she added.
In January, Fawad was arrested for publicly threatening the members of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
