Punjab govt ‘hands over’ Khadija Shah to Quetta police for two-day transit remand

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday summoned fashion designer Khadija Shah after her transit remand was given by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) to Balochistan police pertaining to a case registered against her in Quetta.

LHC’s Justice Ali Baqar Najafi also summoned Punjab’s inspector general. During the proceedings, the petitioner’s counsel, Barrister Sameer Khosa, informed the court of how they were drawing attention to the conduct under which Khadija was being treated.

ATC Proceedings

On Monday, Balochistan police submitted an application before the ATC seeking transit remand for the fashion designer. The police contended in its application that ATC Quetta had issued her arrest warrants and that the police had yet to investigate the case and produce her before the relevant court, the transit remand of Khadija is required.

ATC Judge Abher Gul Khan admitted the application and granted a two-day transit remand to the police with directions to produce her before the relevant court.

Punjab govt withdraws Khadija Shah’s detention order

The Lahore Deputy Commissioner on Monday withdrew the house arrest order of famous fashion designer, daughter of an ex-finance minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf supporter Khadija Shah.

The detention order was issued by Lahore DC Rafia Haider on Nov 17 for a period of 30 days under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance, citing the need to maintain “law and order in the provincial capital.

The DC issued the order after an anti-terrorism court (ATC) granted post-arrest bail to Shah on Nov 16 in the fourth and, thus far, final case linked to the May 9 riots filed against her. The decision to detain Ms Shah was taken on Nov 15.

Ms Shah, who is also the granddaughter of a former army chief, is facing a terrorism case related to her involvement in the May 9 riots.

The Punjab government law officer will present the PTI supporter’s order regarding the withdrawal of her detention notice to the court.
