PTI demands ECP to announce polls schedule immediately

  • Omar Ayub urges commission not to use LHC decision as an excuse to delay schedule
  • Says Shahbaz, Fazl want polls delay polls due to fear of public wrath

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Omar Ayub has categorically stated that PTI’s stance is absolutely crystal clear that free, fair and transparent general elections are on February 8, 2024; thus the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should not use the decision of the LHC as an excuse to delay the announcement of the election schedule.

PTI Secretary General said: “PTI’s stance is very clear. We demand the immediate announcement of the election schedule so that the General Elections are held on February 8, 2024. 2.”

Omar emphasized that PTI demanded that the ROs were from the judiciary because they did not trust the public servants to conduct free and fair elections given the recent track record of the biased illegal Caretaker Governments in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and the equally biased Caretaker Federal, Baluchistan and Sind Governments.

However, he made it clear that the election supervisor should not use the decision of the LHC to delay the announcement of the schedule.

“ECP has continuously proven that it is an appendage of the federal government and used every opportunity to harm PTI and PM Imran Khan,” he added.

PTI Secretary General noted that as far as the statements of the other political parties were concerned and especially PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif and JUI-F head Maulana Fazl-ur-Rahman, they had consistently used a range of excuses ranging from global warming, to snowfall and terrorism to delay the elections because they fear the wrath of the people of Pakistan due to the dismal performance of the PDM Government.

“PTI’s stance is absolutely crystal clear – free and fair general elections on February 8, 2024 and the immediate announcement of the Election Schedule by the ECP – No excuses,” he maintained.
