KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday issued explicit directives to the authorities for the production of two citizens who have been missing for an extended period.
The court also issued an explicit directive that the individuals whose enforced disappearances have been established must be brought before the court.
A single-judge SHC bench, comprising, led by Justice Nimatullah Phalpoto issued the directive while hearing two cases, seeking the recovery of Mohammad Naeem, who went missing a decade ago, and Hafiz Farhan Qadri, who disappeared in 2020.
During the hearing of petitions related to the enforced disappearances on Tuesday, the public prosecutor informed the court that meetings of the Joint Investigation Team (JITs) and investigations had confirmed that both citizens were subjected to “enforced disappearances.”
Expressing concern over the prolonged disappearance of both the individuals, Justice Nimatullah Phalputo urged decisive action based on findings of the investigation. The investigating officer reported that Hafiz Farhan Qadri had surfaced after remaining missing earlier, and now again was missing since 2020. Both the cases have been registered at Madina Colony police station and a court has declared them as ‘absconders.’
During the hearing, Justice Nimatullah Phalputo emphasized the urgency for producing the missing citizens in court, irrespective of the circumstances. Consequently, the court issued order to the Interior Secretary, demanding production of the enforced disappeared persons in court.
