Tourists flock to KP as snowfall blankets scenic spots

PESHAWAR: The first snowfall of the winter season in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has painted tourist destinations in a picturesque white, attracting visitors to marvel at the enchanting landscapes. Popular spots such as Kalam, Chitral, Malam Jabba, Naran Kaghan, Guliyat, and other upper areas have transformed into winter wonderlands, heralding the onset of tourism activities.

Muhammad Saad, the spokesperson for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Authority on Sunday, highlighted the initiation of tourist influx to these snow-clad destinations. Tourism police personnel have been deployed to ensure the safety and comfort of visitors. Saad emphasized that tourists should take necessary precautions, including using chains on vehicles, and stay informed about the current conditions at tourist locations. The tourism helpline at 1422 remains operational 24/7 to assist travelers.

Meanwhile, in Peshawar, the dry winter spell was broken with rain, providing relief to citizens who had endured an extended period of dry cold. The Meteorology Department reported increased humidity in areas like Inner City, Hayatabad, Kohat Road, among others. While the rain alleviated the dry conditions, it also contributed to a rise in respiratory illnesses. Citizens, previously grappling with the harsh dry cold, faced challenges such as nose and throat ailments.

Weather forecasters noted that regions like Hangu and Orakzai, experiencing light rains after a prolonged dry spell, are continuing to receive intermittent showers. Additionally, snowfall has commenced in Neelam Valley, adorning the mountains with a pristine white layer. The combination of rain and snow has brought about a pleasant and cool atmosphere in the region.
