- Enumerates how his govt had done away with outages, and terrorism and brought down petrol prices
GUJRANWALA: PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif on Saturday pledged to eliminate poverty and unemployment from the country if voted to power in the upcoming general elections.
“Had his government not been toppled, not a single person would have been unemployed in the country”, the PML-N repeated the mantra while addressing a public gathering in Gujranwala.
Citing Transparency International’s report, the three-time prime minister said Pakistan’s ranking on graft index improved under Nawaz Sharif-led government. “Not only corruption, the price of bread, flour and sugar were also at the lowest”, he reiterated.
He pointed out that his government also ended loadshedding and terrorism while the prices of petrol and electricity were the lowest. “The IMF [International Monetary Fund] had also acknowledged the country’s development pace during my tenure,” he added.
Nawaz further said that the judge, who was in line to become new Chief Justice and awarded him sentence, resigned and went home. “That judge was involved in my ouster,” he added.
“Had my government remained, people would have been satisfied; they would have been able to make ends meet, unlike today,” the PML-N supremo maintained.
Addressing the youth of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif assured them that he will once again build motorways, universities and hospitals across Pakistan, in addition to tackling unemployment and poverty in the country.
A day earlier, Nawaz Sharif asserted that the country’s real youth stand by his party, not mummy-daddy type.
Addressing a public gathering in Faisalabad in connection with general elections 2024, the three-time prime minister said that some people believe the country’s youth support another party, but “that’s not the case”.
“The real Pakistani youth stand by PML-N, not the mummy-daddy ones,” Nawaz Sharif, said, adding that he has no words to “thank the people of Faisalabad for this love”.
“We will not rest until Pakistan becomes stable. We will not rest until we don’t bring back the lights in homes, eradicate poverty and unemployment, and build schools, hospitals, and motorways. We will fulfil promises made by my brother Shehbaz Sharif,” he said while addressing a rally in Gujranwala.
The former prime minister expressed his concerns regarding the negative narrative propagated on social media. “Some individuals create a storm of negativity on social media, claiming that the youth is with them. However, the true youth of Pakistan is the one standing with us,” he added.
Reflecting on his previous term as prime minister, Nawaz remarked, “During my tenure, the prices of commodities such as motorcycles, tractors, gas, flour, petrol, sugar, and other items were lower. Look at the prices now; injustice has been imposed on the people.”
‘Viral disease eliminated permanently’
In an apparent reference to former prime minister Imran Khan, PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif, during her address, stated that a “viral disease” was causing significant harm to Pakistan but that has been eradicated now forever.
She said that the “viral disease” had plagued Pakistan for the past five to seven years, causing extensive damage, but it has now been eliminated permanently.
She mentioned that Gujranwala was the first to defeat this viral disease, saying that the ones who had initiated the long march had fled from Gujranwala.
Maryam highlighted that promises of five million houses were made, but not a single house was constructed. “If Nawaz Sharif has promised five million houses, he will definitely deliver,” she claimed.
She concluded by urging to end the politics of revenge and to embark on a journey of progress.
