ISLAMABAD: After the registration of an FIR against her for interfering in official duty at a polling station in Sialkot, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) leader Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Monday filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court, seeking protective bail so that she could approach the sessions court.
Firdous made the government and ASI Amjad Ali respondents in her petition.
According to the FIR registered on the complaint of ASI at Saddar police station of Sialkot on February 9, the police official said that on the election day, the IPP leader not only misbehaved with him but also slapped him.
He said that since mobile phone and internet services were suspended on that day; he could not inform the authorities about the incident in time.
Firdous asks ECP to listen to her viewpoint
Later talking to the media outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) building, the IPP leader said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) must listen to her point of view as well.
She alleged that the police personnel deployed at the polling station were busy putting stamps on the names of her rival candidates. “The question is that instead of abiding by the law, why were they acting as facilitators of a political party?” she questioned.
Firdous went on to say that if such people were not brought to book, then ordinary people would teach them a lesson by taking the law into their own hands.
