ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has won all the three National Assembly seats from Islamabad as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday notified successful candidates.
The development came as a shot in the arm for the PML-N as the party’s tally in the lower house of the Parliament has now surged to 79. The new entries will play a crucial role as the PML-N is trying to piece together a coalition government at the Centre.
According to the ECP notification, PML-N’s Anjum Aqeel was declared winner from NA-46, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry from NA-47 and Raja Khurram Nawaz from NA-48.
In another development, the ECP has ordered halt to issuance of election results from eight National Assembly constituencies which include NA-52, NA-53, NA-56, NA-57, NA-58, NA-60, NA-69 and NA-126.
The ECP directed the concerned returning officers not to issue the election results of these constituencies.
In a related move, the ECP has also halted election results from seven Punjab Assembly constituencies which include PP-7, PP-12, PP-15, PP-42, PP-43, PP-53 and PP-133. The ECP has directed the returning officers to submit reports about these constituencies to the ECP.
Saad Rafique wants an end to political stability
PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique has said that all stakeholders “should be concerned about the end of political instability.”
In a post uploaded on X platform on Monday, the former federal minister said that hatred should not dominate decisions. “Analyse your own mistakes. Hearts should be opened,” he added.
ECP urges high courts to appoint tribunal judges
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has written a letter to all the five high courts for the appointment of tribunal judges.
In order to redress complaints of candidates against alleged irregularities in the polling process, Election Commission wrote separate letters to the Chief Justice of the High Courts that names of the available judges should be given for the formation of the General Election Tribunal.
It is a legal requirement to form a tribunal for general election irregularities, according to the post. The Election Tribunal has 120 days to decide on election complaints.
