PTI candidates for reserved seats yet to file returns as ECP deadline expires

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) deadline to submit returns for seats reserved for women and minorities expired on Thursday.

According to details, no woman or minority candidate affiliated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) had submitted returns.

The Election Commission will allocate seats reserved for women and minorities to parties after the new party position. Allocation of reserved seat will not be made through the notification in case any candidate fails to submit return.

According to sources, 13 political parties are now out of the race for reserved seats in the National Assembly.

The Sunni Ittehad Council has decided to approach the Election Commission for securing reserved seats and prepared a final draft of the application.

On the other hand, the PTI has submitted certificates of 86 independent candidates to the ECP for the National Assembly who had joined Sunni Ittehad Council.

Similarly, certificates of 105 Punjab Assembly members who joined the SIC have been submitted to the ECP.

According to sources, 85 independent members supported by Tehreek-e-Insaf have submitted their membership certificates of Sunni Ittehad Council for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

Nine members have submitted their membership certificates of the Sunni Ittehad Council for the Sindh Assembly.
