LAHORE: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Lahore on Saturday granted bail to Anchor person Imran Riaz in the Zaman Park attack case.
A week ago, the police arrested Imran Riaz Khan in a case of assaulting police officials and vandalism outside the PTI founder’s Zaman Park residence.
The police had produced the journalist in the court and sought his physical remand. The court, instead, had sent Imran Riaz on judicial remand.
During the proceedings, Ashfaq questioned the sensitivity of the case, asking why the police were unaware of it for eight months if it was so significant.
Riaz’s counsel, Ali Mian Ashfaq, identified more than a dozen loopholes during the proceedings, challenging the prosecution’s claims and highlighting inconsistencies.
He pointed out the lack of evidence establishing Riaz’s connection to the charges and the absence of any role attributed to the accused in the FIR.
On February 23, the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) arrested Imran on charges of acquiring Tharabi Lake contract at a significantly reduced price.
Later, the anchorperson was granted bail in a corruption case against a surety bond worth Rs0.1 million.
On the other hand, an ATC extended the interim bail of former federal minister Asad Umer and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Zain Qureshi till March 19 in the Jinnah House attack case.
