LAHORE: The Punjab provincial government has announced plans to initiate the largest environmental and forest conservation project in the history of the country.
Under the leadership of Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, a pivotal meeting was convened in Lahore, where directives were issued to spearhead efforts to combat smog and eradicate disposable plastic bags throughout Punjab.
Key decisions from the meeting included the activation and digitization of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), along with amendments to the Punjab Forest Act to align with contemporary environmental standards.
Additionally, plans were approved to collaborate with the private sector to devise strategies for curbing air pollution province-wide. The assembly also greenlit Punjab’s inaugural zoological survey and the implementation of the Chief Minister’s Plan for Pakistan Vision.
In a significant move, the meeting sanctioned the establishment of Lahore’s premier international fish market and the modernization of the wildlife department, incorporating cutting-edge technology. Furthermore, plans were finalized for Punjab’s first-ever digital wildlife archive and the formation of a dedicated wildlife protection force.
This comprehensive initiative underscores the Punjab government’s steadfast commitment to environmental preservation, signaling a new era of sustainable development for the region.
