‘Fascist government has lost its senses’: Umar Ayub

ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and PTI leader Umar Ayub has criticized the government, accusing it of authoritarianism and human rights violations following the arrest of over 100 PTI workers during a recent protest.

Addressing reporters in Islamabad on Monday, Ayub expressed concerns over what he termed as the government’s heavy-handed response to peaceful protests, alleging that basic human rights were being disregarded. He particularly criticized the police for failing to uphold their duty during the protests and for making unwarranted arrests, including those of prominent PTI figures like MNA Latif Khosa and PTI lawyer Salman Akram Raja.

Ayub vowed to continue peaceful demonstrations across the country in response to alleged electoral rigging, citing discrepancies in Form 45 and Form 47 during the February 9 elections. He accused the ruling party of exacerbating inflation and predicted further hardships under their governance.

Highlighting what he termed as the unprecedented snatching away of PTI’s electoral mandate, Ayub criticized the government’s legitimacy and warned of impending increases in electricity prices. He questioned the constitutionality of the Prime Minister and Chief Minister of Punjab’s positions, alleging they were obtained through force and coercion.

In conclusion, Ayub reaffirmed PTI’s commitment to advocating for their rights and pledged to persistently voice their grievances against what he perceives as injustices perpetrated by the government.
