LAHORE: More than 2500 kilogram of contaminated and substandard meat was disposed off during separate actions in various cities of Punjab including Lahore.
Punjab Food Minister Bilal Yasin Food Authority teams, conducted inspections of various markets to check quality of meat being sold to customers.
Taking action against sellers of substandard meat, the Food Authority teams disposed of 2500 kg contaminated meat besides issuing warning notices to violators of rules.
Food Minister Bilal Yasin visited in Mughalpura Lahore with Food Authority teams and assessed the quality of meat in the markets. The minister informed media that substandard and expired meat kept for sale in meat shops was immediately seized. He informed that action was taken upon the discovery of foul-smelling, substandard meat in dirty freezers.
He mentioned that some shops lacked proper cleanliness arrangements and were infested with insects. The minister directed the Food Authority teams to ensure complete traceability of meat supplied across Punjab, including Lahore.
Bilal Yasin said that ensuring safe food supply to the people of Punjab, especially during the holy month, is our mission. In line with the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab, a series of actions against the counterfeit mafia are underway, and Food Authority teams are fully active.
The minister appealed to the citizens to support the Food Authority in eliminating adulteration and counterfeiting in food and to report any complaints to 1223 so that our teams can take disciplinary action promptly upon arrival at the scene.
