Online scamming and cybercrimes, such as financial fraud and identity thefts, have become increasingly common since the Covid pandemic during which many people had switched to various digital platforms for making money. With about 60 per cent of Pakistanis now online, the cybercrimes are expected to increase with time. Only 20pc of the reported cybercrimes end in convictions, which is a rather low conversion rate. There has been an estimated annual loss of Rs50 billion, which is staggering. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) needs to take proactive measures to curb these crimes and to give relief to the people.
