PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has cleared its oil and gas accounts with the federal government, paving the way for the provincial government to receive Rs 14 billion from the centre.
The said amount could be transferred to the provincial government in May.
According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Advisor Muzammil Aslam, several cases between the centre and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are under discussion. Talks are underway on about 12 issues, ranging from funds for tribal districts to electricity, oil and gas royalty, taxes, and other heads. Eight letters have also been written to the centre in this regard.
With regard to the outstanding dues of the centre in the oil and gas head, the centre has acknowledged Rs 14 billion of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and it is highly likely that this amount will be released next month, which will improve the province’s financial accounts.
He said that the financial condition of the province is not good but the provincial government has adopted austerity measures due to which financial matters are being carried out in a better way. The government is also fighting a case for the payment of other outstanding dues of the province from the centre. He expressed hope that a major breakthrough will also be made in this regard.
