DERA GHAZI KHAN: The Punjab Police personnel on Wednesday thwarted a major terrorists’ attack on a bordering checkpost in Dera Ghazi Khan and forced the group of terrorists to flee through a swift and effective response while seven police officials were injured in the fire exchange.

According to a police spokesperson, terrorists affiliated with a banned organisation attacked the Jhangi Police Checkpost, situated in the Wahova area of DG Khan. This was the second assault on the post in as many months.

The terrorists targeted the personnel stationed at the checkpoint with the aim of capturing them.

“About 20 terrorists armed with rocket-launchers, hand-grenades, laser light guns and other modern weapons launched the attack on the police’s Jhangi post”, the spokesperson informed.

The police jawans present on duty put up a stiff resistance, beating the terrorists back and foiled their attempt to infiltrate the border into Punjab.

The firefight left seven policemen injured who fought valiantly against the terrorists, the district police officer said.

The injured cops were identified as ASI Imran, constables Muhammad Amir, Ashiq Zain, Rahmatullah, Sanaullah and Elite constable Tariq.

Another Elite constable, Shahid Mazoor, was rushed to Nishtar Hospital in Multan with serious wounds.

According to police, DG Khan regional police officer and district police officer had visited the Jhangi post two days ago and alerted the jawans about the possible threat of terrorist attack.

A Punjab police spokesman said that the DG Khan RPO had also supervised a rehearsal for defence of the post.

The DG Khan RPO said the security of the Jhangi post was also beefed up with additional reinforcement, necessary equipment and more weapons.

Jhangi post incharge Sub-Inspector Mohiuddin along with his team displayed excellent skills while defending the post, the RPO said.

Punjab IGP Dr Usman Anwar showered praise on the police jawans for defending the post, saying “Punjab police is alert and will not let terrorists succeed in their nefarious designs to harm the country.”
