LAHORE: Syrian Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Rami Waheed Al Dhulli has expressed desire for practical measures to promote educational relations between Pakistan and Syria.
He was leading a high-level Syrian delegation which visited Punjab University and called on the Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood at his office on Saturday.
The Syrian delegation consisted of senior officials of the Ministry of Education and educational personalities while Regional Director of HEC Ghafoor Ahmed, PU Registrar Dr Ahmad Islam and Deans of various faculties were also present in the meeting.
Dr Rami Waheed Al Dhulli said that educational experts of both countries should promote academic cooperation with each other and they want to benefit from the research and experiences of PU teachers. He said that they wanted to promote cooperation with PU in the field of education and training, especially information technology.
The Syrian Deputy Education Minister said that we want to send the thesis of Syrian students to Pakistani experts for their evaluation. He said that Syrian people love Pakistan very much. He said that Pakistan will not forget the help it has extended to Syria. He said that they want to work together to improve each other’s human resources. He said that the environment of PU is very impressive and we are feeling very happy to come to the oldest university of Pakistan.
Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood briefed the delegation about Punjab University. He said that as many as 150 students from Africa, Palestine, Iran and other countries are studying in Punjab University. He assured to extend full support for promotion of relations with Syrian universities. He said that 19 departments of PU are ranked in the QS ranking.
The VC said that PU has excellent experts in IT, Agriculture, Biology and other fields. He said that PU experts will help the Syrian universities to improve their higher education. Later, the Syrian delegation visited various departments including Punjab University Library.
