PDMA forecasts fresh rain spell in May

LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a forecast indicating a new spell of rainfall for the ongoing month.

According to a spokesperson, northern Punjab is expected to experience moderate rainfall, while other regions of the country may receive lighter showers during this wet period.

In anticipation of these conditions, the PDMA has advised farmers in the Potohar region to take protective measures for their wheat crops. Additionally, the westerly system accompanying the rainfall may bring dust and hailstorms, posing potential risks to crops and structures.

The PDMA has also cautioned about the possibility of landslides in mountainous areas.

Moreover, as temperatures are anticipated to rise in May, particularly in southern regions, the PDMA warns of potential heatwaves in the plains.

The Director-General of PDMA has urged local administrations to remain vigilant during this period.

In line with the PDMA’s forecast, the Met Office has provided a seasonal outlook predicting near-normal rainfall across most parts of the country from May to July. However, it suggests that certain areas, including the northeastern catchments of Punjab, southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and parts of southern Sindh, may experience slightly above-normal rainfall during this period in 2024.
