All set as election battle rages in Multan’s NA-148

MULTAN: Multan’s NA-148 constituency is set for a gripping electoral showdown as Ali Qasim Gilani, son of Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gilani, and Barrister Malik Taimur, backed by the Sunni Ittehad Council with Tehreek-e-Insaf’s support, prepare to vie for the National Assembly seat.

The vacancy arose after Yusuf Raza Gilani’s elevation to the Senate in the recent general elections, setting the stage for a fiercely contested election.

The Election Commission has issued the election schedule, marking the culmination of a rapid campaign period with polling scheduled for Sunday. Notably, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has refrained from fielding a candidate in support of Qasim Gilani, although internal divisions within the party have surfaced, casting doubt on the extent of their support.

Local observers report a divided stance within PML-N ranks, with some factions throwing their weight behind Barrister Taimur. Meanwhile, Qasim Gilani faces opposition from elements within his own party, adding complexity to the electoral landscape.

Barrister Malik Taimur has framed the contest as a challenge against the political dynasty of Yusuf Raza Gilani, emphasizing the need for change and accountability in representation. He alleges misuse of resources by the Gilani family and vows to challenge their dominance in the electoral arena.

In contrast, Ali Qasim Gilani remains resolute, pledging to uphold democratic principles and serve the constituency’s interests. He expresses confidence in securing victory, citing past successes and a robust support base.

The electoral battle reflects broader dynamics within Pakistani politics, with traditional parties facing challenges from emerging forces and independent candidates. As the election approaches, the stakes are high in NA-148, promising a pivotal moment in Multan’s political landscape.
