Religious scholars unanimously call Iddat case ‘politically motivated, contrary to Islamic teachings’

ISLAMABAD: Religious scholars from all schools of thought are unanimous on the point that the iddat case framed against PTI Founding Chairman Imran Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi is fabricated and politically motivated and contrary to the teachings of the Qur’an and the Sunnah.

They are of the opinion that in a matter of iddat, a woman’s testimony is considered credible and sufficient; hence decision should be made accordingly.

In a joint video statement, religious scholars including Pir Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) Secretary-General Allama Raja Nasir Abbas and Sahibzada Hamid Raza, the Chairman of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) said that after consulting religious scholars belonging to all schools of thought, they have concluded that the iddat case is a politically motivated conspiracy devoid of any religious, legal, or moral basis.
The scholar stated that even if they were against Imran Khan even then they would still say what is right, because it is a matter of Islam and religion.

Pir Noor-ul-Haq Qadri emphasized that in matters of iddat, a woman’s testimony is considered credible and sufficient and therefore, it should be respected. He demanded that those involved in this conspiracy sought forgiveness from Allah and the affected parties for their egregious actions.

Noor-ul-Haq Qadri urged the government and judiciary to prevent such malicious plots and intentional attempts aimed at destroying family and marital life and undermining the very fabric of our society.

The scholar stressed the need that all religious scholars, regardless of their political affiliation, should openly oppose such conspiracies and speak out publically against them.
He asked that what kind of law is this, where a woman was testifying about her iddat and you frame a case against her and present witnesses?”

Allama Nasir Abbas said that judiciary should not interfere in such sensitive religious matters they have no knowledge about. He demanded that the judge who awarded sentence to PTI Founder and his spouse should be questioned about his knowledge on Islam and religion.

Allam Raja Nasir said that political differences should not lead to personal vendettas and that all scholars must unite against such conspiracies, which aim to exploit religious sentiments for political gain.

He lamented that unfortunately, in Pakistan, all legal, moral and even religious limits were crossed in political adversity, as they those framed case against Imran Khan and his wife in sheer violation of Allah commandments.

He warned that the door to chaos, destruction and shamelessness should not be opened, adding that those in power are bereft of modesty and morality and therefore they have no red lines.

Allama Nasir said that they must have knowledge about the status of mother and daughter in Islam and should respect them, adding that the top judiciary would toss this decision into the dustbin which was forcibly pronounced. The senator blasted the government and it’s counsel for resorting to delaying tactics, which condemnable.

He expressed hope that the court would give such a decision that no one would ever dare to commit such heinous act again, adding that the truth would stand victorious and the fraud and lie would be bite the dust.

Sahibzada Hamid Raza said that it was not the opinion of the three scholars but they reached to the conclusion of long deliberation with all scholars of different schools of thought.

He said that the iddat case against Imran Khan and his wife was an open violation of Allah orders and Sunnah, adding that in matter of iddat, a woman’s testimony is considered credible and sufficient in Islam and the decision should also be made on the basis of her testimony.

However, he stressed that it was important to know the reasons and factors that brought the iddat like sensitive matter into the court of law ever first time in the history of Islam with sole purpose to ruin the personal and marital life of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.

Hamid Raza stated that the Iddat case clear showed that we reached to the lowest ebb of moral degradation because we started targeting honor and respect of families only on political basis instead of settling the political scores in political arena.

“We as a nation, regardless of any political affiliation and schools of thought, should utterly reject such behaviors and conducts and should discourage them,” he urged.

He demanded that the judge must be questioned for making nikkah like sacred relation disputed and he along with those violating sanctity of four walls should be held accountable. He urged that judiciary should take a clear and unequivocal stance on the issue so as no one could give decision under pressure against teachings of Quran and Sunnah ever again.
