Fact check: New institute of cardiology in Lahore is not being named after Maryam Nawaz

A notification doing the rounds on social media and various WhatsApp groups stating that the ‘under construction’ Institute of Cardiology attached with Allama Iqbal Medical College/ Jinnah Hospital Lahore is to be named “Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (MNIVCD), Lahore”, is absolutely false and fabricated.

The notification is signed by Senior Planning Officer-II of Punjab Fatima Naureen, who while speaking to Pakistan Today outrightly denied the issuance of any such notification calling it “absolutely fake”.

The notification, from the ‘Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department’ makes no mention of the details of the project in question.

The notification dated 29th May, 2024, also does not appear on the department’s website that lists all notifications issued by the department. The last notification posted there was on 17th May, 2024.

The only project that was approved recently was announced by the caretake Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who is currently the Federal Interior Minister and Chairman PCB.

The project he announced was to be named ‘Jinnah Institute of Cardiology’.
