District administration fails to extinguish fire on Margalla hills

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon has stated that significant progress in containing the fire that erupted on the Margalla Hills.

Memon stated that the fire near Gandian village, behind Faisal Masjid, has been brought under control, while efforts are underway to extinguish the blaze near Kanijal village, close to Naval Headquarters.

Despite challenges, including the spread of fire in Kinsala village, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Islamabad administration remains vigilant in its firefighting efforts. Rescue teams are actively combating flames, even at the location of the stupa, where a fire has ignited.

Attributing the fire’s spread to high temperatures and strong winds, Memon assured that precautionary measures have been implemented to contain further escalation. Notably, three individuals have been apprehended on suspicion of starting the fires, with ongoing interrogations underway.

Firefighters and helicopters have been deployed to aid in extinguishing the blaze, underscoring the multi-pronged approach to tackle the situation.

Memon further revealed that cases have been registered against 15 individuals responsible for igniting fires in recent days, with additional arrests anticipated in the coming days.
