HYDERABAD: The death toll from a blast at a liquid petroleum gas cylinder filling shop in Hyderabad’s Preetabad area rose to 16 on Tuesday, after two more injured victims succumbed to their wounds.
The blast occurred in the LPG cylinder filling shop located on the ground floor of the Zacha Bacha Hospital area along Mir Nabi Bux Town Road in UC-8 of Neerunkot town.
The death toll increased to 16 after two injured victims succumbed to their burn wounds at Karachi’s Civil Hospital. The deceased were identified as Umair, 15, and Abbas, 14. Currently, seven injured, including critically injured victims, are under treatment at Karachi Civil Hospital.
At least 60 people, mostly children, sustained serious burn injuries and were shifted to Karachi after receiving emergency treatment at Liaquat University Hospital (LUH). Around 18-22 injured persons with 80% to 90% burns were referred to a major hospital in Karachi.
Those who were shifted to Karachi, according to LUH records, include Azam, 7, son of Rais; Bilal, 11, son of Asif; Azam, 9, son of Shakir; Hasnain, 7, son of Rasheed; Ali Raza, 2, son of Bilal; Abdul Hadi, 14, son of Asghar; Zulfiqar, son of Mohammad Umer; Akram Shah, 38, son of Qurban Shah; Raeesudin, 35, son of Alamuddin; Ali, son of Zeeshan; Akram, 50, son of Waseem; Abbas; Dodo, 25; and Faizan, 40, son of Ishaq.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, along with ministers, visited the Burns Ward and inquired about the health of the injured persons.
