HYDERABAD: The death toll from last Thursday’s cylinder blast in Hyderabad has risen to 27, following the death of a four-year-old child, Bilal, who succumbed to his burns while undergoing treatment in Hyderabad on Sunday.
The tragic incident occurred at a gas cylinder shop, where an initial explosion triggered multiple subsequent blasts, causing extensive damage and fires in adjacent homes. Over 60 individuals, including women and children, were injured in the explosions.
Currently, 12 children are receiving medical treatment in hospitals in Hyderabad and Karachi.
Due to the severity of the injuries and the lack of adequate facilities at Civil Hospital Hyderabad, 23 of the injured were transferred to Civil Hospital Karachi. Of these, 10 have since died, and 13 remain in critical condition.
Dr. Aftab Phul, AMS of Civil Hospital Hyderabad, confirmed the transfer of the severely injured patients and highlighted the critical condition of many children involved.
The Sindh government has announced compensation for the victims, with families of the deceased set to receive Rs1 million, and the injured receiving Rs500,000 each.
