Punjab govt allocates Rs1bn for monsoon preparedness

LAHORE: The Punjab government has sanctioned a grant of one billion rupees for monsoon preparations, aimed at enhancing the capabilities of all provincial Water and Sanitation Agencies (WASAs), including those in Lahore.

This funding, approved on Monday based on recommendations from the Housing Department, will be allocated for essential resources such as machinery and petrol, among other preparatory measures.

This financial boost is part of a broader strategy to ensure robust monsoon readiness across the province. The initiative reflects a proactive approach to managing the seasonal challenges associated with the monsoon period.

In a related development, the Sindh government has issued a monsoon alert and directed officials across all departments to maintain high alert status.

Provincial Minister for Rehabilitation, Makhdoom Mehboob Ul Zamaan, emphasised that safeguarding the lives of residents is a top priority.

He announced plans to inspect various parts of Sindh personally and warned that any negligence by officials would be met with strict action.
