Supreme Court welcomes three new judges

ISLAMABAD: Three new justices were inducted into the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday.

In this regard, Justices Malik Shahzad, Shahid Bilal, and Aqeel Abbasi took their oaths in a ceremony officiated by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Qazi Faez Isa.

The event, held at the Supreme Court, saw the attendance of all current Supreme Court justices and the Attorney General of Pakistan. Former Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was also among the distinguished guests.

The ceremony also included the swearing-in of Qibla Ayaz as an ad hoc member of the Shariat Appellate Bench, with Chief Justice Isa administering this oath as well.

These appointments came into effect following their confirmation by President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday, after a notification from the Federal Ministry of Law.

Of the appointees, Justice Malik Shahzad previously served as the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, Justice Shahid Bilal was a judge at the same court, and Justice Aqeel Abbasi was the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court. Additionally, Justice Shujaat Ali Khan has been appointed as the acting Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, as per an official notification.
