QUETTA: Balochistan has been grappling with severe weather conditions, as continuous heavy rainfall over the past five days has resulted in the deaths of at least seven people and caused widespread damage across the province.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that the N-70 highway, a critical route linking Balochistan to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has been closed to traffic due to the adverse weather. Additionally, the rains have damaged 258 homes in the Quetta area.
The Met Office had previously predicted heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in Karachi and other districts of Sindh, lasting from Wednesday until July 1st.
The monsoon currents originating from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal were expected to affect the eastern parts of the country starting June 26th. Furthermore, a low-pressure area was noted south of Indian Gujarat.
Significant rainfall, along with wind and thundershowers, was anticipated across various regions of Sindh including Karachi, Mithi, Umarkot, and others, continuing until July 1st with occasional breaks. Balochistan’s districts such as Lasbella, Khuzdar, and Jhal Magsi, among others, were also expected to experience similar conditions from June 26th to 28th.
