Islamabad ATC to fast-track cases against PTI founder, members

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has decided to conduct daily hearings concerning cases against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder, Imran Khan, and other involved parties, which are registered at the Sangjani and I-9 police stations.

ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra directed the Adiala Jail Superintendent to provide a written response regarding Imran Khan’s potential appearance via video link.

During the proceedings, several accused including Ali Nawaz Awan, Waseem Qayyum, and Amir Kayani were present in court.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Amir Mughal requested exemptions from personal appearance, which were categorically denied by Judge Sipra, emphasizing that being out of town does not justify absence from the court.

The judge also issued non-bailable arrest warrants for those who failed to attend the proceedings. PTI’s legal team pleaded for an opportunity to ensure the presence of all accused by the next hearing date.

Judge Sipra made it clear that if the absent individuals fail to appear by July 8, the subsequent hearing date, they will be declared absconders. He expressed his intention to expedite the cases, highlighting the benefit to those involved if the proceedings are concluded swiftly and in accordance with the law.
