Cricketers’ salaries: PCB considering ‘performance-based’ compensation

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is currently in discussions regarding the central contracts of national cricketers.

Meetings with the international department and selectors are ongoing in Lahore to deliberate changes in the financial model and compensation structure.

Presently, Category A players receive approximately Rs 6.1 million per month. The proposed changes suggest reducing this amount to Rs 4.5 million. Adjustments in the monthly allowances are also being considered for other categories.

Last year, 30 players were given contracts for three years. The PCB is reviewing player performance after 12 months to update this list. As part of the review, the PCB is considering changes to the central contract categories and the number of contracted players.

Under the current structure, Category A players receive Rs 6.1 million per month, Category B players receive Rs 4.1 million, Category C players receive Rs 1.8 million, and Category D players receive Rs 1.1 million. There are 3 players in Category A, 6 in Category B, 4 in Category C, and 17 in Category D.

These discussions aim to ensure a fair and sustainable financial model that rewards players based on their performance and contribution to the national team.
