Over 5,000 police deployed in Hazara for Muharram security, says DIG

ABBOTTABAD: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Tahir Ayub Khan of the Hazara division announced that over 5,000 police officers and personnel have been deployed to enhance security during the Muharram 9 and 10 processions.

“The Hazara Police are prepared to handle any emergency that might arise, with comprehensive measures in place to ensure peace and safety,” he said.

In his statement on Monday, DIG Khan detailed the extensive collaboration between the police, district administration, and other relevant agencies to prevent any untoward incidents and maintain order. He emphasized that the security plan encompasses the three major districts of the Hazara region: Haripur, Abbottabad, and Mansehra.

The deployment includes district police, elite commandos, traffic staff, Frontier Constabulary (FC), Frontier Reserve Police (FRP), Special Branch, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), lady police, canine units, bomb disposal units, and ministerial staff.

To bolster security, CCTV cameras have been installed along all procession routes, with live monitoring from a central control room. The police are also conducting search and strike operations in areas surrounding the procession routes and Imambargahs. Walk-through gates have been positioned at all entry and exit points to facilitate thorough security checks.

Additionally, the traffic plan has been modified to minimize disruptions from the processions, ensuring a smooth flow of vehicles and reducing inconvenience to the public. DIG Khan also highlighted the cooperative efforts of peace committee officials, the business community, and journalists in maintaining peace during Muharram. He encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station for immediate action.
