WATCH: Donald Trump Jr. engages in heated exchange with reporter at RNC

Donald Trump Jr. clashed with MSNBC reporter Jacob Soboroff during an intense interview on the first day of the Republican National Convention on Monday.

The eldest son of former President Donald Trump labeled the network as “clowns” and demanded that the journalist “just get out of here.”

The confrontation occurred when Soboroff questioned Trump Jr. about his father’s potential second term and described the former president as a “divisive figure.” Trump Jr. defended his father, asserting that he was not divisive and accused the media of fabricating stories about Russian collusion and other allegations.

“I don’t think he was a divisive figure at all,” Trump Jr. argued. “The media created divisiveness around him. They lied about Russia, Russia collusion, they said that he was a traitor, they went after him in every which way possible.”

The convention, where Trump was formally nominated as the Republican presidential candidate, began a day after the former president survived an assassination attempt.

“If the media actually starts being an honest broker, talking about the things that he did, the prosperity he brought, the peace deals that he signed around the world rather than the disaster that we’re living right now, I think you’d do everyone in the country a big favor,” Trump Jr. stated.

The exchange intensified when Soboroff questioned the Trump administration’s policy on separating migrant children from their parents at the border. Trump Jr. attempted to deflect the criticism towards the Obama administration, prompting Soboroff to interject.

“You know they didn’t do that, sir,” Soboroff countered. Trump Jr., accompanied by his brother Eric Trump, sister Tiffany Trump, and fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle, responded with increasing frustration.

“It’s MSDNC, so I expect nothing less from you clowns,” Trump Jr. retorted. “Even today, even 48 hours later, you couldn’t wait, you couldn’t wait with your lies and with your nonsense. So, just get out of here,” he concluded, waving Soboroff away.

Immigration policy remains a focal point of his campaign amid rising numbers of migrants crossing into the US under President Biden.

During the GOP convention, Donald Trump Jr. told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins about their reaction to the assassination attempt on their father, Donald Trump.

CNN reporter inquired how Donald Trump was holding up after Saturday’s incident. Jr told her that he was “doing okay.”

Donald Trump Jr. shared about the “sombre moment” he received the news when he was with his kids on a Saturday evening. He said that it took him 90 minutes to speak to his father and “know what was going on.”

He mentioned he was not able to get a hold of him, as he was locked up in a hospital.
