Mohsin Naqvi set to lead Asian Cricket Council as new president

ISLAMABAD: The next president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) will be from Pakistan, with Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), set to assume the role.

The decision was made during the ACC meeting held in Bali in January 2024. Pakistan has been granted the authority to chair the ACC, with Naqvi’s term as president set to begin in January 2025.

The new president will serve a two-year term, overseeing the council’s initiatives and activities across the continent.

During the same meeting, the current ACC president, Jay Shah, was granted a one-year extension to his term, ensuring continuity in leadership until the transition to the new president.

In addition to his role as PCB Chairman, Naqvi also serves as the Interior Minister. With his upcoming role as ACC president, he will be overseeing three major portfolios. Recently, star cricketer Shahid Afridi criticized Naqvi for holding multiple portfolios, questioning his knowledge of cricket.

Pakistan’s national team was eliminated in the first round of the T20 World Cup 2024 and is now preparing for the Asia Cup 2024. Reports suggest that the Indian team may not participate in the tournament held in Pakistan.
