Country faced over 1,500 terror incidents and 3,000 casualties in 2023

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reported 1,514 terror attacks in 2023, resulting in 2,922 casualties, including both martyred and injured individuals, according to a report by the Interior Ministry.

The report, presented before the National Assembly, detailed that Pakistan witnessed 1,514 terror incidents in 2023, in which 572 armed forces personnel were martyred and 1,292 sustained injuries. Additionally, 358 civilians were martyred, while 700 were wounded in these attacks, the Interior Ministry’s written statement said.

The report also highlighted terror incidents from January to April 2024. In the current year, Pakistan reported 561 terror attacks, resulting in the deaths of 167 security personnel and 118 civilians.

Last year, the Anti-Terrorism Department (CTD) released a report on terror incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2023. The report indicated that 563 terror incidents occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with police being targeted 243 times.

According to the report, the highest number of incidents occurred in Dera Ismail Khan (132), followed by Khyber (103) and Peshawar (89). North Waziristan faced 86 attacks, while South Waziristan was attacked 50 times. The report further noted that 837 terrorists were taken into custody.
