Rain incidents claim lives of four children in capital

ISLAMABAD: Four children tragically lost their lives in separate incidents related to rain in Islamabad, involving electrocution and drowning.

Rescue 1122 reported that the first incident occurred in the F-11 sector of the capital, where two children, 8-year-old Ghulam and 5-year-old Waqas, were electrocuted while playing in the rain. They reportedly fell into water which led to their electrocution.

In a separate occurrence within a private housing society, two other children, 10-year-old Sahil and 12-year-old Wasal, drowned in accumulated rainwater.

Authorities have handed over the bodies of all four children to their families and have launched investigations into the circumstances of both incidents.

These tragic events coincide with Pakistan’s monsoon season, which typically spans from July to August. While the season is crucial for replenishing water supplies and aiding agriculture, it also brings challenges such as flash floods and landslides, which often result in significant damage and loss of life. The increasing intensity and unpredictability of these rains underscore the urgent need for enhanced disaster preparedness and climate adaptation measures.
