Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem was overcome with emotion after securing a historic victory in the men’s javelin throw final at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
At 27 years old, Arshad etched his name in history as the first individual athlete from Pakistan to win a gold medal, achieving an extraordinary throw of 92.97 meters. This monumental feat not only earned him the gold but also set a new Olympic record.
A video that has rapidly gained attention on social media captures the emotional moment when Arshad, draped in Pakistan’s flag, shed tears of joy following his victory. The achievement left the javelin star visibly overwhelmed as he celebrated his historic accomplishment.
Arshad’s triumph at the Paris Olympics marks a significant milestone for Pakistan, bringing home the country’s first Olympic gold in 40 years across any discipline. Previously, Pakistan had only secured gold medals in hockey, with the last one being won at the 1984 Los Angeles Games.
His record-breaking throw surpassed the previous Olympic record held by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen, who had set the mark at the 2008 Beijing Games.
With this victory, Pakistan ended a 32-year Olympic medal drought. The last time the country stood on the Olympic podium was in 1992, when the national hockey team claimed bronze after defeating the Netherlands 4-3 at the Barcelona Olympics.
