ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI/LAHORE/KARACHI: Following javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem’s record-breaking performance at Paris Olympics, President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Armed Forces of Pakistan, the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, and the Services Chiefs extended their warmest felicitations to the nation on this momentous occasion and lauded Arshad Nadeem for his historic victory, declaring him the pride of the entire nation.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday congratulated javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem over securing a gold medal for Pakistan at the 2024 Paris Olympics, ending the country’s 32-year drought with the Olympic medal.
Arshad Nadeem won the gold medal in the men’s javelin beating defending champion Neeraj Chopra of India to clinch Pakistan’s first Olympic Athletic medal in Paris Olympics 2024, besides breaking the previous Olympic record with a 92.97-metre massive throw.
“You are pride of the whole nation,” both the president and prime minister said in their separately issued statements.
“Arshad Nadeem’s victory is the victory of whole nation. Setting a fabulous Olympic world record is a great achievement. You have made us proud by winning the gold medal in a great contest of Olympics and bringing fame to Pakistan,” President Zardari stated.
Both the president and prime minister also prayed to Allah Almighty for more successes of Arshad Nadeem in his future endeavors.
“Bravo Arshad! History made! Pakistan’s first Olympic men’s javelin champion Arshad Nadeem brings home a historic gold medal at Paris 2024! You’ve made the whole nation proud young man,” the prime minister wrote on his X timeline.
In a statement, he greeted the whole nation on this great achievement of Arshad Nadeem for not only winning the gold medal but also setting the world record in Olympics.
He said that two over 90 meters throws without any foul manifested his great performance and also a “very beautiful gift” of Arshad Nadeem for the nation.
“You have made a history in Pakistan as well as the Olympics by setting a new record. The whole nation feels proud of you,” he remarked.
The prime minister lauded Arshad Nadeem’s hard work and that of his family to win the title and bringing laurels to Pakistan after decades.
Pak Armed Forces, CJCSC felicitate Arshad Nadeem
The Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR), the Pakistan Army’s media wing, also congratulated the nation, including Arshad Nadeem for winning the first gold medal for Pakistan after 40 years in the Paris Olympics.
According to ISPR, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) and Chiefs of Pakistan Army, including Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Sidhu, and Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf congratulated the nation on the victory of Arshad Nadeem for winning the first gold medal for Pakistan in Olympics after 40 years.
The ISPR stated that Arshad Nadeem made history by becoming the first Pakistani athlete to win an individual gold medal. Pakistan’s spectacular success in the Olympics is the result of Arshad’s unwavering dedication.
In its statement, the ISPR added that the success in the Olympics is proof of Arshad Nadeem’s tireless work, perseverance, and exemplary work.
NA passes resolution to confer civil award on Arshad Nadeem
On the hand, the National Assembly (NA) on Friday unanimously passed a resolution on Friday to confer a civil award on Arshad Nadeem, who made history by winning a gold medal at the Paris Olympics last night.
The resolution, presented during the NA session, praised Nadeem’s remarkable achievement in the javelin throw event, where he set an Olympic record with a throw of 92.97m, securing Pakistan’s first Olympic gold in 40 years.
The resolution further recommended that the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari bestow a civil award upon Nadeem in recognition of his extraordinary accomplishment. The resolution was passed with unanimous support.
Sindh announces Rs50m for gold medallist
The Sindh government on Friday announced a Rs50 million reward for Arshad Nadeem for winning the country’s first individual Olympic gold in the javelin throw final at Paris Olympics 2024.
This was announced by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab on X (formerly Twitter).
“Congratulations Arshad. Fortunate to have witnessed this historic moment with the public. Gold medal for Pakistan in Olympics after 40 years. PPP’s Sindh Govt will give Rs50 million to Arshad,” Wahab said, adding that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will establish “Arshad Nadeem Athletics Academy” in the provincial capital.
On the other hand, Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has announced to give Rs2 million to him.
Sindh Government Spokesperson and Sukkur Mayor Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh announced that Arshad Nadeem will be awarded a gold crown.
Additionally, the under-construction new sports stadium in Sukkur will be named after Nadeem to honour his remarkable achievement, he added.
Maryam Nawaz announces Rs100mn reward for Arshad Nadeem
Moreover, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also announced Rs100 million for Arshad Nadeem for winning a gold medal at the javelin throw final in Paris Olympics 2024.
“Nadeem has given the nation a present on the occasion of the Independence Day,” she said in a statement.
Maryam Nawaz also announced a construction of a sports city named as Arshad Nadeem Sports City in Mian Channu.
Moreover, singer Ali Zafar announced Rs1 million for the athlete for winning gold for Pakistan.
Meanwhile, ARY Digital Network President and CEO Mr Salman Iqbal has announced a luxurious apartment in ARY Laguna for Pakistan’s star javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem for winning a gold medal at Paris Olympics 2024.
Mr. Salman Iqbal in his statement, congratulated the athlete and announced an apartment for him at ARY Laguna to honour his achievement at the grand stage of Paris Olympics 2024.
“Congratulations to Arshad Nadeem for winning the gold medal for Pakistan,” said Mr Salman Iqbal.
Arshad Nadeem ended the country’s 32-year medal drought in the Olympics after bagging a gold medal with the longest throw of 92.97 meters in the javelin final at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Arshad Nadeem became the first-ever individual gold medalist in the Olympics for Pakistan.
Notably, this is the first time in Pakistan’s 77-year history that an athlete from Pakistan has won an individual gold medal in the Olympic Games.
Pakistan last stepped on the Olympics medal podium on August 8, 1992, when the national hockey team defeated the Netherlands by four goals to three to win the bronze medal at the Barcelona Olympics. While Pakistan won the gold medal in the 1984 Olympics for the last time, which was won by the hockey team.
