NDMA warns of potential flooding across Pakistan

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued its latest Hydrological Outlook, signaling potential flood risks and reduced water flow across various regions in Pakistan.

The report indicates a likely decrease in water flow at Mangla Dam, one of the country’s critical reservoirs. It also predicts low to medium water levels in the Chenab River at important points, including Marala, Khanki, and Qadirabad.

Additionally, a moderate flood threat has been identified in the Pir Panjal range canals, the Kabul River, and its tributaries.

The NDMA has also warned that floodwaters could pass through areas such as Kalabagh and Chashma, extending to the Taunsa and Guddu barrages. This situation presents a moderate flood risk for the Dera Ghazi Khan Division, as well as the Zhob, Sibbi, and Kalat divisions.

The outlook further highlights the potential for flooding in the river channels of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and in the Ravi and Chenab rivers, particularly affecting the Zhob, Sibbi, Nasirabad, and Kalat divisions. Residents living in the plains near Chashma, Taunsa, and Guddu are especially at risk from potential floodwaters.

In light of these warnings, the NDMA has instructed relevant departments to remain on high alert and to implement necessary safety measures to protect the public. Authorities are urged to closely monitor water levels and take proactive actions to reduce the impact of potential floods on vulnerable communities.

As the monsoon season progresses, the NDMA’s outlook serves as a crucial reminder for both residents and officials to remain vigilant and prepared for any adverse weather events.
