‘Death of six people’: Driver booked for triggering accident at wedding procession

SWAT: The police on Friday registered a case against the driver of a double-cabin pickup van for an accident during a wedding procession that left six people, including women and children, died and 24 others injured.

According to the initial police investigation report, due to speeding by the driver Shah Karim Jan, the double-cabin pick-up van went out of control and plunged into a deep gorge after hitting the bride’s car.

Chuprial Police SHO Muhammad Ayaz Khan told Pakistan Today that the tragic accident had taken place at Dabonuo village of Churial area. The gruesome accident occurred during the wedding procession when the driver of a double-cabin pick-up, Shah Karim Jan, lost control of the steer and fell into a hundred feet deep ditch.

As a result, 55-year-old Mehbooba Bibi, wife of Muhammad Jan, 42-year-old Anwar Bibi, wife of Said Karim Jan, 30-year-old Farzana, wife of Sarzamin, 12-year-old Uzma, daughter of Haji Nawab, 3-year-old Muniba, daughter of Habibullah and 11-year-old Riasat, daughter of Khan Saif died in the accident, while 24 other wedding guests, including the bride a bird were injured.

Local people and the police with the support of Rescue 1122 personnel recovered the dead bodies and the injured and shifted them to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Matta.
