PM Shehbaz set to deliver ‘powerful’ news on IPPs within two months, says minister

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister Awais Leghari has announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will deliver good news to the public regarding Independent Power Producers (IPPs) within the next month or two.

Addressing a youth convention in Islamabad, the energy minister discussed ongoing efforts to tackle the country’s energy crisis, emphasizing that reforms in the energy sector are essential.

Leghari highlighted that energy billing has reached Rs 1,100 billion, with losses amounting to Rs 400 billion. He noted that while the government has quietly worked on resolving the IPP issue, the public’s growing attention added pressure on the matter.

“We have managed to convince the IPPs within the limits of international contracts,” Leghari said. “In just three and a half months, we accomplished what has never been done in Pakistan’s history.”

The minister assured that within a month or two, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would announce news that would benefit both the public and industries.

He also mentioned the formation of a task force, which includes agency representatives, to further address the energy sector’s challenges.
