PESHAWAR: In a move to promote and facilitate religious education, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced plans to install free solar systems in over 1000 religious madaris across the province, including the merged tribal districts.
This initiative, directed by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, aims to make religious education more appealing and accessible.
The Auqaf and Religious Affairs Department, in collaboration with the Energy & Power Department, will soon commence a survey to transition these institutions to solar energy. A significant meeting chaired by Secretary Energy and Power Nisar Ahmad Khan, and attended by Secretary Auqaf and Religious Affairs Adil Siddiq, Project Director Solarization Engineer Asfandyar Khan Musa Zai, and Senior Planning Officer Engineer Luqman Hakeem, outlined the solarization efforts under the annual development program.
Secretary Auqaf Adil Siddique emphasized the importance of consulting with the Director General Religious Education (DGRE), Government of Pakistan, post-survey, to swiftly kickstart the project. He highlighted that each registered madrasa will receive a tailored solar system based on its specific needs.
Secretary Energy Nisar Ahmad Khan tasked the project director with preparing the project’s PC-1 immediately after the survey, in partnership with the Auqaf & Religious Affairs department. He stressed the necessity for prompt funding and the preparation of detailed lists for the solarization of registered madaris, ensuring equitable distribution across districts.
