LAHORE: In a significant development in the case involving the assault of a woman in Lahore’s Ichhra area over her attire, Judge Arshad Javed of the Anti-Terrorism Court has ordered the removal of terrorism charges.
The case has now been transferred to the Session Court for trial.
The police have accused Altamash Saqlain, Nadeem, Muhammad Ali alias Chand Butt, Malik Khurram Shehzad, and Adil Sarwar in connection with the assault, while charges against Khalid Mahmood Khalid, Aleem Uddin, and Allama Saqib Ali have been dropped.
The incident occurred in Lahore’s Ichhra market, where the woman, shopping with her husband, was confronted by an angry mob. The mob accused her of blasphemy due to her attire, which featured the word “Halwa” written in Arabic script, leading to the altercation.
The case was initially registered at the Ichhra Police Station.
