Iran declares readiness to defend sovereignty against potential Israel attack

TEHRAN: Iran announced its readiness to “fully defend its sovereignty” against any attacks from Israel, following threats from Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant.

Gallant recently stated that Israel’s response to the 200 missiles launched toward its territory would be “deadly, precise, and surprising.”

Addressing the UN Security Council, Iran’s UN representative, Amir Saeid Iravani, affirmed that Iran would protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity against threats to its security.

While emphasizing that Iran does not seek “war or escalation,” Iravani stressed that the country reserves the right to defend itself, in line with international law, and would inform the Security Council of any defensive actions taken.

Meanwhile, the United States has expressed concern over the lack of humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip, a matter raised by Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Blinken also voiced support for the Lebanese state as Israel conducts strikes against Hezbollah targets within Lebanon.

“It’s clear that the people of Lebanon have a strong interest in the state asserting control and responsibility for their country’s future,” Blinken added.
