Sindh govt to roll out double-decker buses in Karachi

KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced plans to introduce double-decker buses on Karachi’s roads, with preparations underway for their procurement, according to Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.

Memon, who is also the provincial Minister for Information, Transport, Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control, shared the news during an important meeting attended by Director Soheb Shafiq, People’s Bus Service Manager Abdul Shakoor, and other officials.

In the meeting, it was decided that 50 new buses will be purchased for the People’s Bus Service. Memon directed the Mass Transit Authority and other relevant bodies to expedite the procurement process, emphasising the Sindh government’s commitment to modernizing Karachi’s public transport system.

“We are committed to modernizing public transport in Karachi. This initiative will significantly improve urban transportation, providing citizens with affordable and comfortable travel,” Memon said, stressing the need for swift implementation to meet the city’s growing transport needs.

He also urged the completion of bus stations for the People’s Bus Service as soon as possible.
