Punjab CM directs utilization of technology for higher agri production

  • Maryam Nawaz says around 1.2 million farmers have registered for Kissan card

LAHORE: Consistent hard work has started paying off, as there is a possibility of strong increase in area under cultivation and production of rice,” said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated while chairing a special meeting to have a detailed briefing on issues related to agriculture sector in Punjab.

She said, “Rice production and export are expected to increase. Last year rice export was $4 billion dollars, this year it is expected to reach $5 billion dollars.” She highlighted, “Wheat cultivation on the under-cultivated government land has been made mandatory.”

The chief minister said, “30% increase in the production of wheat in Punjab is predicted, adding that 2.2 thousand acres of land has been allocated for off-season cultivation of tomato and onion in Punjab, whereas off-season cultivation of tomato on 1,762 acres of land has already been completed.”

CM Maryam Nawaz declared that the farmers would provide cheap seeds and other agricultural inputs for wheat crop. “Scientific methods should be adopted and machinery should be used to increase production,” she emphasized.

Maryam Nawaz said, “10% increase in production is expected due to 5% increase in tomato and onion cultivation area.” She added, “737 Super Seeders have been provided to the farmers at subsidized rates in Punjab.”

On the occasion, the chief minister said that 993 agriculture graduates were professionally guiding farmers for higher production of wheat, adding that the fast-track construction of four agri malls in Punjab was underway. “Around 1.2 million farmers have registered for Kissan card, more than 4 lakh 17 thousand Kissan cards have been printed, and above 3 lakh Kissan cards have reached the farmers.”

Earlier, the chief minister was briefed by the authorities concerned,”1.5 million farmers have visited the CM Green Tractor Program portal while 10 lakh have applied, whereas 9500 tractors will be drawn.” It was also briefed that 64% of the applicants own 5 acres of land, 28% own 12 and a half acres of land and 8% of those who apply own up to 50 acres.

On the other hand, Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz congratulated Pakistan Cricket Team on their outstanding triumph in test series against England. She expressed good wishes for the cricket team in their future endeavours. She added, “Sajid Khan, Nauman Ali and others showed excellent bowling, and Saud Shakeel batted responsibly.” She highlighted, “The best teamwork was seen in the recent Pakistan England series. The entire nation is happy for the historic victory of the Pakistan cricket team.”

CM Maryam Nawaz Aggrieved Over Martyrdom of Policemen

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Saturday expressed deep sense of grief and sorrow over the martyrdom of four policemen in a suicide attack on a check post in North Waziristan. She offered condolences and expressed her heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved families.

She also paid homage to the martyred policemen and prayed for their higher ranks in the heavens.
